“All the world’s a stage”, says Jaques in Shakespeare’s As You Like It, but the contemporary stage for Public Relations (PR) is changing, and rapidly.

The stage for PR’s was platforms from events and awards through to print, radio, and television. Recently, online was added, and now Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming wrapped up in every level of awareness and reputation-building, and making valuable connections.

It is a new factor for our industry, and for related services. Even as so much human interaction is becoming human interaction with, directly or indirectly, AI, many creative services are being taken over by AI – planning, graphic design, journalism, copywriting. What is left for humans? Especially is things shift towards AI simply talking and working with other AI’s.

A profound question, and it is interesting to see that some PR companies are advertising as ‘proudly human’. We will continue to make the same claim. We’re happy to work with and pay humans. If those humans in turn use AI to help them, that is a sign of the times. So, we’ve just had our business cards tweaked. By a human. This blog post is entirely written by a single human (Hi, readers!). We have a rather novel advertising standard being made for us my humans, and those from a local green hub using recycled and repurposed materials.

These ware liable to be more costly and, well, be different to what AI might come up with. Maybe even less good, slower. But, remembering that before AI really got doing we approved of the words of a friend, ‘Save the human’ that is being consistent with our established, human values. In this case founded on the uncertainties and risks of AI, and very much the energy and environmental costs.

From a principle, then, to a practicality. Practically, a key part of PR is influencing, and that often means real, actual people, in real, actual time. In September, with the Best Of, FFS project, and before that with the Bromley Buzz podcast (now 5 years old) we’ve given people unique platforms on which to meet, be seen, and be heard. And that isn’t counting what we’ve done to find our clients connections and awareness. Recently, we’ve provided stages from Community House in Bromley to Bromley Little Theatre. Before that, Camden’s Roundhouse, the Troubadour Club, and others.

We will continue to value, provide, and facilitate human, in person, platforms. Save the Human.
