In Tune PR’s Founder, Darren Weale, gave a speech using these notes at the Down House Bromley BuzzUp free, all-sector networking event on 21st April 2026, which was attended by Cllr Jonathan Andrews, the Mayor Of Bromley. The speech can also be heard on the Bromley Buzz podcast, here.

“We are in the home of Charles Darwin, the person who wrote the Origin Of Species and the Descent of Man. Evolution, and this place, are amazing.

“But I do wonder if man (and woman, and everything in between) is descending, the way we treat the natural world, the way we lurch from war to war, and, often, the way we treat each other.

“We must do better. How do we do better?

“By thinking and believing better. Hope is a four-letter word, but it can’t be a grim four-letter word.

“Nearly 5 years ago, I started the Bromley Buzz podcast, with the help of Sarah Marsh-Collings and Zeenat Noorani, to help join people up and provide positive news for the community.

“The Bromley Buzz podcast continues. In the same 5-year period, Bromley FC won a trophy and has been promoted to the football league and now to Division One. Before that, Bromley-based David Bowie changed the world of music and impacted the arts more widely.

“Things can change and get better, but they need help from Bromley and beyond, and not just by the Bromley Buzz, the ‘Voices of Bromley’.

“So, what next? Today, I am announcing, in Darwin’s home, the public origin and start of the Best Of Project.

“The ‘Best Of Bromley’ is a project for September and beyond. Like this event, it will bring together people and sectors and give people something to look forward to.

“It is a month-long series of events, with warm up events in preceding months. They will be about the best things here in Bromley. There is a Plan to go beyond Bromley as well.

“It is also about seeing the best in people and encouraging others to do so. This is the hardest and the most exciting part in a cynical age when trust and trusting is so difficult in many areas. So, the best is not defined as anyone who gives us money. It is attitude and achievement and creating stories.

“For example, we will have a party during it for the 5th anniversary of the Bromley Buzz at the Bridge House Theatre in Penge, as they, too, are 5 this year. We will have live podcast episodes and people not normally seen in Bromley coming here to participate.

“I am building a small team to support it, Salt and Slate Catering are the very first sponsor, and today I would like your ideas and input. What can be focussed on and done in Bromley for everyone to be made to feel more upbeat, happy to be alive, proud, involved, and optimistic?

“Events. People. Places. Activities. Happenings. Social media. Gatherings. Learning. Mini-projects. Ideas. Volunteers. Vision. Creativity. The floor and paper are yours. Be part of this origin.”
