In the course of presenting the Bromley Buzz podcast, we met the late Zigi Shipper, holocaust survivor and inspiration, at the Biggin Hill Memorial Museum (pictured with Darren Weale).
Zigi passed away on his birthday, 18th January 2023, aged 93 years old. As the Jewish Chronicle said, “Zigi Shipper was a survivor of the Lodz ghetto and both the Auschwitz and Stutthof concentration camps. He arrived in the UK in 1947 and has spent over two decades sharing his testimony in schools across the country, being awarded a British Empire Medal in 2016 for his work with the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET).”
There is more to Zigi than that. Family man, warm personality, above all bearer of the remarkable – given his history – message of ‘Don’t hate’. When we met him, he kindly said a few words for the podcast, which introduce this episode.
It was an honour to meet Zigi, and his daughter, Lu. Zigi leaves a great legacy and a message for all time.
